UBC Caregiver Study
Researchers at UBC are currently studying how stress influences health and well-being. The goal is to find out what people can do to cope with stressful situations in their lives most effectively.
The main eligibility requirements are as follows:
1) You must be between 40-60 years of age.
2) You must be a fluent English speaker.
3) You must not have or be caring for a loved one that has cancer or another serious illness.
4) You must be in good general health.
5) You must not have any MAJOR stressors in your life at this time.
The study involves 4 visits (1-1.5 hr) over the course of one year. During each visit, you will be asked fill out a questionnaire about your mood, life stresses, and health practices, and will have a small blood sample taken to assess your health and immune system function. For three days following each visit, you will be asked to collect saliva samples, keep a diary of your mood and wear a wristwatch-like monitor that will measure your sleep/wake activity. The visits take place in the Kenny Building (Psychology Dept) on the UBC Main Campus.
As a token of our appreciation, participants will receive $50 for each visit. Participants who complete all 4 study visits will receive an additional $50.00.
If you meet the main eligibility requirements listed above, please respond to this post and include your name, age, telephone number, and the best time to reach you.
Please allow one week for study staff to contact you. At that time, you will be asked a few additional questions to confirm your eligibility.
