Description: Culture Connections is looking for volunteer women to mentor newly arrived women for a weekly two-hour meeting during the weekdays. Culture Connection have members who would benefit from being partnered with fun-loving, adventurous women of similar age, experience and energy. They are very interested in connecting with local women and are missing their friends, sisters and cousins from back home. These newcomer women are eager to meet Canadian women who can share their experiences of working and raising a family in Vancouver.

Culture Connections match Canadians with Newcomers to help Newcomers learn about Canadian culture and leisure while improving their spoken English.

Many Newcomers arrive in Canada with the hopes to settle and connect with the local community and many have found it challenging to interpret the nuances of socializing in Canada.

Newcomers can experience isolation when first arriving to Vancouver. Canadian social customs and practices can be bewildering and this can act as a barrier to meeting people, making friends, and socializing.

MOSAIC celebrates diversity and welcome Hosts from all backgrounds.

The commitment required is to meet once a week for two hours for 12 weeks.

You will make a new friend, learning more about another culture and perspective and by improving your intercultural communication skills and cross-cultural competence.
This volunteer position would work well for mothers with pre-school children who they wish to bring along to the meeting.
Training: A host orientation and training session as well as ongoing support throughout the match.
