Be the mentor you wish you had!
We are seeking passionate volunteer mentors from all backgrounds to engage in meaningful and supportive relationships with Aboriginal youth ages 12-18. Matches will meet throughout the month and participate in one on one, fun, consistent, and positive activities with their mentee. Through the support of positive role models, Aboriginal youth in our program have the opportunity to realize their strengths and work towards future goals. Our goal is to empower youth to make positive choices and changes: helping them to grow into strong, capable, and confident adults.
Matches meet for 2-4 hours/ week or 8-16 hours/ month working on goals and exploring positive community activities. Matches are set up for a minimum of 6 months- 1 yr, however many of our matches develop long lasting friendships, which have proven very successful in assisting Aboriginal youth lead a more positive lifestyle.
Skills and Experience: Must be 19 or older and successful completion of Criminal Record Check. Able to commit for a minimum of six months to (1) year.
Requirements: Requires criminal records check
Training Provided: Initial orientation, training, and ongoing support from program co-ordinators. Workshops on: Alcohol and Drugs, Mental Health, Internet Safety, Cultural Awareness, Sexual Exploitation, Conflict Resolution and other topics.
