After School Club with Krista: Nov 9 to Dec 14
Teacher: Krista Farrell, BSc, BEd
Homework help, friendship skills, self-esteem building, and computer skills are just a few of what will be offered in this unique club. Krista does an excellent job of planning interesting, thought provoking activities that her students enjoy. We also have a volunteer from UBC who wants to help out with this club, so students will receive plenty of one-on-one attention. We expect that about half of the students who enroll in this club will be G/LD.
Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 to 5:00, 10 sessions for $100 or $15 for drop ins. Cash or cheque payable to "Madrona School." No class on November 11th. Maximum class size is eight children, ages nine to thirteen. Fees are pro-rated for late enrolment. Wireless internet is available for students who bring their own laptops.
Students will first tackle their homework, if they have any, and will then join the group for a variety of other activities, such as playing educational board games. There will be special activities such as card making for the holidays, science, nature, drama games, computer skills, building with Lego, and creative writing. Activities will depend on the interests of the children, and feedback from parents. Every day will be different. Krista is fluent in French, and will incorporate French into many of the activities. This will be a calm, low-stress club where even sensitive children can relax and be themselves, and share some laughter. We are unable to accommodate any behaviours that prevent other students from having a fun, productive time at Madrona. Self-control is required.
Krista has a degree in Science and a Bachelor of Education from UBC, and teaches French at Madrona two afternoons per week. Her background includes teaching snowboarding and mountain biking to children at Whistler. She grew up with computers, and has a passion for digital media. Krista has also contributed numerous volunteer hours involving sea turtle research, conservation, and education in Australia, and has led school groups at the Vancouver Aquarium. Krista attended French Immersion throughout grade school. She has a warm, gentle personality and looks forward to welcoming new students to Madrona’s stimulating and nurturing atmosphere.
