Primary Purpose
The purpose of the Practical Nursing (PN) Instructor is to contribute to the academic success of students and to the success of the College in achieving its statement of purpose. The Instructor’s primary function will be to assist, teach, monitor and evaluate students during their classroom &/or laboratory based training.
General Description
Under general supervision, the PN Instructor is responsible for providing instruction and facilitating student learning according to the prescribed curriculum.
Specific Responsibilities
Reporting to the Campus Director or Campus Coordinator, the Instructor is accountable for the following:
• Dealing with students, staff and other instructors in a professional, courteous and helpful manner
• Delivering instruction that meets module and program objectives as set out in the curriculum
• Preparing lesson plans and teaching aids that utilize a variety of teaching methods which will promote the attainment of desirable goals of students
• Discussing students’ progress with them individually and as a group
• Explaining the course outline and expectations to students
• Attending regular PN Committee / Department meetings
• Participating in the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional materials, as required
• Informing the Campus Director or Campus Coordinator of any significant changes or problems that arise during a module
• Attending Instructors’ meetings, as required
• Possessing a clear understanding of, and upholding, the College’s policies and procedures relating to students and instructors
• Cooperating with the administration staff in the performance of their duties
• Completing required forms and records and submitting them to administration staff in a timely manner
• Maintaining relevant industry skills and knowledge

• Relevant industry skills and knowledge relating to the area of instruction
• Advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation
• Ability to motivate and inspire students
• Demonstrate and encourage high standards of behaviour, a professional attitude and commitment to quality service
• Ability to work cooperatively with Practicum Coordinator and student.
• Ability to consider and respond appropriately to the needs, feelings and capabilities of their student and to provide feedback and treat students equitably
Education and Experience:
• Registered nurse (registration must be current);
• a min of 3 yrs practical experience;
• bachelor's degree;
• instructional experience preferred and/or possession of instructor's certificate.
