The Sunshine Valley Inn is a beautifully rugged lodge that is surrounded by a very fascinating history. It is located within walking distance of the famous Dewdney Trail used during the 1860's gold rush to Yale. You can still find some evidence of the thousands of gold-seekers that traveled this trail. Also, if you follow the old highway #3 west (by foot) from Sunshine Valley, you will come across the well-known Hope Slide that occurred on January 9, 1965 when a small earthquake triggered the mountain's slope to come down killing 4 people under the 46 million cubic meters of pulverized rock, mud and debris. Another rich note of history is that the Inn is located on the property originally called Tashme which was one of British Columbia's Japanese interment camps during World War II. A few of the original interment buildings are still standing in Sunshine Valley.
The Inn was originally built in 1969 for the use of a delinquent boys dormitory, which at that time, received the infamous nickname of "Boys Town". The inn still has the great 70's décor with the exception of a few modern upgrades and appliances. All of the second floor bedrooms have hand painted murals on the walls which were painted by the occupants during their stay in the early 70's.
Throughout the 80's many church groups used the Inn for weekend retreats and gatherings. It was full of life and laughter. Many people have great memories and stories from their time in the Inn and their weekend getaways. Others may remember skiing around the Sumallo ski area (Silvertip Mountain) before Manning Park opened up. (If you have a memory or story to share, please share it with us!) The Sunshine Valley Inn has been closed since the late 90's but has now opened its doors again.

Our townhouse is located just a few blocks (a 5-10min walk) from the Lonsdale Quay (pronounced ‘Key”) where visitors are met with an assortment of trendy shops and cafes, windows providing views of water and coastline, and access to everything a traveller could want: (ATMs, take out food, liquor store, benches on which to relax with a latte, etc).
North Vancouver did a great job in planning the Quay pier facility for maximum results. We have direct access to the SeaBus, and suggest taking the SeaBus and Skytrain as much as possible. It's a 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit with full kitchen. 2 tvs, decks and desirable location The complex has common areas and amenities also. Mid-week cleaning service and an underground parking space is included with the rental.
We spend this week in Whistler almost every year. It's wonderful. If you've been to Whistler before, you already know this. If not, this is ag reat opportunity to visit--the town will shine with its Olympic preparations and improvements.
