New Stride is a registered charity dedicated to finding adoptive homes and alternative careers for Thoroughbred racehorses no longer able to compete.
During its existence New Stride has placed over 90 Thoroughbreds into adoptive homes and assisted many owners and trainers in connecting horses coming off the track with opportunities for new careers and homes. Simon Fraser University (SFU) researchers are looking for teenagers to participate in a study which will examine the use of
video mediated conferencing devices such as Skype, MSN Messenger, Youtube, Facebook Video and more!
The ideal person will:
2. Be between ages 13-18
3. Be living in the Lower Mainland
4. Have regular access to a computer with a built in or detachable web camera
The goal of this study will be to understand the ways in which teenagers use video chat programs
such as Skype, Google Chat, FaceTime, Youtube, Facebook Video. This information will be used to
understand how current video chat systems either meet teenagers‟ needs or do not, and suggest
improvements for future video technology systems for teenagers.
To be recruited for this study, you need to be between the ages of 13-18 and be comfortable with
sharing your thoughts and feelings regarding your personal interactions through video chat
systems. You should also be comfortable in discussing the challenges you may encounter while
using such systems.
You can be involved in the following ways:
1. Survey & Diary
You will be asked to fill out a short and anonymous online survey where you will be referred to as
"Participant X" instead of your real name. Once you are selected for the study, you will be asked to
take part in an anonymous diary study. This consists of diary entries describing video conferencing
activities reflecting on the conversations you, as "Participant X", have with others. Was your
conversation as emotionally fulfilling as in-person dialogue? We want to hear about it!
2. Interview
You will be asked to take part in an informal interview where we will ask you open ended questions
regarding the overall conferencing systems you use and the motivations behind your use. Your
name will not be asked during the interview and your identity will remain anonymous.

The BC Wildlife Federation's Wetlands Education Program (WEP) needs your help to make a difference in BC communities. A non-profit program established in 1996, WEP is known for successfully delivering quality wetland education across the province. This program builds the capacity of communities to assess their wetland assets and, using this new knowledge, increase community & ecosystem health. WEP's activities are built upon four core programs: the Wetland Institute workshop, Wetlandkeepers courses, The Puddle Project and Wild Kidz Camps.
Three volunteer internship positions are now available:

Job Summary
An Advisor is just that, a mentor who advises teens in the Youth leadership program. They guide discussions and activities that give participants a chance to share their thoughts, feelings, opinions and concerns; as well as learning from guest speakers, training sessions and peer presentations. The purpose of the weekly sessions is to build relationships and help youth become positive role models in the community.
Requirements
• To be at least 5 minutes early for scheduled volunteer time.
• 20 years of age or older
