Phyton Biotech is a global provider of chemotherapeutic agents including Paclitaxel and Docetaxel Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API's) and Taxane intermediates. <br>
With comprehensive upstream and downstream capabilities, ranging from fermentation to natural and semi-synthetic purification, we are focused on capacity, reliability, and quality in taxane API supply to our generic and branded pharmaceutical customers. <br>
<br>
Phyton services also includes development of new API's using taxanes as a starting material; or by combining fermentation, including plant cell or other expression systems, with world class chemical synthesis and other purification methods.<br>
<br>
Phyton currently has an opening for 1 Production Chemist to become integral team member within the Manufacturing Operations team. Production Chemists are responsible for the manufacture of Phyton's API's at commercial scale meeting Phyton's and global regulatory agencies GMP requirements. <br>
<br>
Responsibilities:<br>
<br>
- Work within the Manufacturing Operations team to manufacture Phyton's Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients in a large scale commercial / non-laboratory setting. <br>
- Train and become proficient in the operation and cleaning of reactors (e.g. 30-500L), pumps, commercial scale chromatography systems (e.g. 1.5m to 3+m columns), solvent recovery <br>
   systems (e.g. 100-500 L/hr recovery rates) and other related process equipment.<br>
- Perform daily equipment and cleaning activities for the equipment and manufacturing areas.<br>
- Work within a team environment to complete assigned activities.<br>
- Continually train and adhere to Phyton's GMP quality and compliance systems. <br>
- Able to efficiently use tools to disassemble and assemble production equipment for cleaning, production use and preventative maintenance. <br>
- Complete work efficiently and per the procedures with a thorough understanding of the underlying priorities.<br>
- Ability to follow written procedures and document the work in a clear and legible manner. <br>

Preferred Qualifications: <br>
<br>
- Commercial manufacturing experience with an applicable College Technical degree and work experience will be considered for this position or a Bachelors of Science (Chemistry or Chemical<br>
   Engineering preferred) with 1-2 years of work experience in a science based (e.g. nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetics) commercial manufacturing company. <br>
- Hands on experience in working with and manipulating large scale / non-laboratory process and facility equipment. <br>
- Ability to troubleshoot and effectively relate process or equipment issues with Operations, Facility, Quality Assurance and Engineering staff.<br>
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.<br>
- Must be flexible and able to multitask in a changing production environment. <br>
- Ability to work under pressure while meeting production plans in a fast paced, production environment.<br>
- Ability to write read and speak fluently in English to effectively communicate, execute and record daily work activities. <br>
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, perform physical tasks (e.g. lifting up to 40 lbs, movement of 200L drums with lifter) and effectively work with hand tools. <br>
- Flexible work schedule when required to support manufacturing activities. <br>

<br>
Key Responsibilities<br>
Ensure compliance to Regulatory Requirements (CFIA, USDA, FDA) food safety programs (HACCP) and finished product specifications.<br>
<br>
FOOD SAFETY<br>
Verify critical control point procedures and parameters for completion as per established food safety program.<br>
Observe on-site GMP's and communicate corrective action as required.<br>
Verify sanitation procedures through pre-operational inspection and microbial swab analysis.<br>
Verification of chemical concentrations using approved testing methods.<br>
Monitor Shipping and Receiving procedures and personnel for complance to established food safety protocols.<br>
Reporting and investigation of open NCR's, CAR's & Food Safety Incidents.<br>
Verify functionality of QC laboratory instrumentation and online production equipment.<br>
Perform microbiological analysis and take appropriate action based on results.<br>
Conduct training of hourly staff on Food Safety and correction of non-conformities<br>
<br>
QUALITY ASSURANCE<br>
Evaluate raw ingredient and finished product to ensure compliance to specifications.<br>
Perform on site verification of manufacturing processes to ensure compliance to Standard Operating Procedures.<br>
Ensure non-compliant product is segregated and appropriate follow up actions are taken.<br>
<br>
PREFEREED HIRING CRITERIA<br>
Undergraduate degree of Diploma in Science or related work experience (3+ years).<br>
1+ year work experience in manufacturing.<br>
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to provide technical support to operations personnel.<br>
Time management:  Efficient organization of daily routine responsibilities and additional projects.<br>
Problem solving:  Lead others to solutions by being organized, patient and respectful.<br>
Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, Meat Hygiene Manual of Procedures<br>
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel<br>
Precision and quality minded<br>

Strong working knowledge with GC, KF, acid/base titration;<br>
At least two years similar previous experience;<br>
Excellent communication skills, organization and data entry accuracy;<br>
Ability to prioritize and multi-tasking;<br>
Ability to work independently or with a team;<br>
Self-motivator;<br>
Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;<br>
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel;<br>
Strong English communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;<br>
Some physical work involves.<br>

Duties and Responsibilities: <br>
