mixed fastpitch league (7 and 2) looking for teams for upcoming season starting end of april 2012. all games out of port kells (88th and 195th) in surrey. this is a softball/windmill league although we do allow orthodox pitching as well as slingshot style. teams need a minimum 2 males or 2 females on the field at all times. games start at 6:30 mondays, thursdays or fridays with the odd double header on sundays. we usually do a 20 game schedule with an opening ice breaker and a closing playoff tourney. all games have carded softball b.c. umpires and are played out of the quiet area of port kells park. this league has been around for over 30 years and currently has 6 teams playing out of this league. league fees are approximately $1000-$1100 per team.

Parenting group in Surrey

Family counselors with extensive training and experience helping parents of children or teens with extreme behavioural issues, is starting a support group for parents, in Surrey Fleetwood area (close to Fraser Hwy with 160 St).

The group will run Monday evenings, 7-9 pm, starting next week, Feb 13th. A $5 fee is required for regular members who pay for 6 sessions ($30) at a time, and $10 for occasional drop in. Please contact us to register for regular or drop-in attendance, as seats per session are limited.

A lot of people object to the idea of BC Hydro's surveillance of their habits.
Some object to the manner in which this is introduced, the intimidation
and bullying tactics reported, all to force this apon us all.
While others can't understand why in a recession we are firing 400 meter Readers
and spending well over a Billion dollars on a Technology that even Ontario's Premier
Dalon Mcguinty admits does nothing more than make us aware,of our Electric use
with no real cost savings.
Still others feel we are already saturated with RF radiation from cell towers,cell phones,
digital TV towers, and that adding one more thing to this will be disaster for our health
and our family's health.

If you feel that B C hydro's Smart Meter plan with accompaning RF signals at your home,
is not what you want in your future, then it is good to know there are neighbours
like myself that are there to help. If you like the Smart Meter future, then just pass this letter
on to others who are concerned and that will be that.

Looking to play fastpitch?

My fastpitch team is gearing up for the 2012 season and we're recruiting a few new players to join us. We are a well-established, organized and competitive senior ladies team with players ranging from ages 23 to 40. We play in the Fraser Delta Women's Fastpitch League, usually out of Newton Athletic Park in Surrey and Delview Park in North Delta. Our season starts in April and lasts until mid-July, but we will begin practicing in a gym in Cloverdale on Wednesday nights in February. We generally play two games per week (varying nights) and participate in two or three weekend tournaments throughout the season as well as league playoffs. Past experience with fastpitch is a must (you will be considered even if you haven't played for a few years -- playing fastpitch is like riding a bike), and experience in any position(s) is welcome. As I said, we are a competitive team, so we are looking for players who are dedicated and can commit to playing on a mostly full-time basis; however, since we have very little conflict or drama on our team, we are also looking for players who have good attitudes and are supportive of their teammates. We have a lot of fun playing ball together! Meet other Chronic Pain survivors, and let CP survivors know what is available out there for them AND that they are not alone - if you have anything you would like to share, pamphlets, anything, please bring it along to share.

It is a GREAT location - with quite a few w/co accessible stalls and additional parking around back there's an elevator to the floor we are on - I could not find any accessibility issues. It is easily located from either way on the freeway. Everyone is welcome to bring their own snack or beverage, OR there is a little coffee shop right there on the 2nd floor. We are located in the room right beside the coffee shop.
Also, if people want to chat afterwards, there is the coffee shop, library, Guildford mall or my personal favorite to get people "out of their houses" - an indoor walking track!
