WEEKLY CLASSES START FRIDAY 17 JANUARY 2012

2 classes to choose from: Preliminary Rudiments and Intermediate Rudiments

- Beginner class is designed to provide students with a clear understanding of the basic knowledge of music theory; by understanding chords, intervals, note and rhythm reading and writing, as well as key and time signatures.
- Intermediate class builds on the beginner class knowledge by expanding the breadth of note writing, key signatures, intervals, scales, time signatures and includes vocabulary and basic chord structures. Both classes also prepare students for the Royal Conservatory of Music exam occuring in May.

Weekly lessons occur at the following times, starting Friday 17 February:
FRIDAYS 4:00PM - 5:00PM = Basic Rudiments (ages 5+)
FRIDAYS 5:00PM - 6:00PM = Intermediate Rudiments (must have taken basic rudiments before enrolling in this class)

CLASSES RUN FOR 13 WEEKS, TUITION TOTALS $286 OR $22 PER HOUR. Payment can be made each month until the class finishes, or in full from the first lesson. Registration closes Wednesday 22 February 2012. (Tuition will be adjusted for those students who start on 24 February)

Students wishing to enrol for group theory lessons are not required to take the RCM exam. Registration for the exam is done separately through the RCM website. Exam date is 12th May 2012.

We are most famous for our Flying Eye Hospital which travels throughout the developing world threating those that are blind and visually impaired. This year we are planning the ORBIS Pull for Sight event scheduled for Sunday, May 27th at the FedEx Apron at the Vancouver International Airport.

The pull is a fun team competition to see which group can pull a 757 cargo airplane 12 feet in the fastest time. The martial art of Ki Aikido combines martial art with an active meditation called Mind and Body Coordination. Instead of learning to fight and collide with opponents, students learn to have a positive mind and lead their partners.

In this introductory program, you will learn the fundamentals of Ki Aikido including posture, natural movement, attacking and rolling, meditation & Ki Breathing and their applications to daily life.

SHIN SHIN TOITSU AIKIDO

Many train the body and forget the mind; others train the mind and neglect the body. But by coordinating mind and body we can realize better health, confidence, happiness, and peace.

Aikido literally means the way to harmony with Ki. Students study Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido (Ki Aikido) to learn to coordinate mind and body, to work with others positively, and realize their full potential. Students learn the process of applying Ki to the martial art.

Coordinating mind and body, we use Ki to powerfully lead our opponents rather than colliding. This applies directly to dealing positively with people in daily life. Ki Principles are used in all aspects of training from basic arts to practice with wooden weapons.

We apply Ki Principles fully in each movement. These exercises form the basis of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido arts. Even when our opponent resists, we train to perform effectively using Ki and non-dissension.

We utilize Ki Principles not only in throwing, but also in the arts of falling - ukemi. Aikido with Ki (both throwing and falling) is an invigorating healthful exercise. We benefit by learning to follow as well as to lead with ease.

Our programs are taught in a traditional Dojo setting. The programs are led by highly skilled instructors. Instructors travel regularly to Portland to train with senior Northwest Ki Federation instructors, and to Japan to ensure that the latest teaching from Tohei Sensei is available to students.

Our Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder course is a 140 hour blend of independent study and instructor guided learning.

The 90 hour classroom work is structured to train students to work as members of the EMS community through lecture and lab practice. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 50 hours of independent home study prior to the first day, using the course material provided, to round out the learning process.

Topic areas are first presented by examining the theory related to a particular injury followed by the practical aspect of emergency care for that injury. The course outline provides the order of presentation of topics to allow you to study applicable sections prior to delivery of lectures. The last day of the course will be devoted to a written exam and practical testing.

The program offered by the Vancouver Ambulance Service is a high quality, practical-skill based program with a self study component, supplemented by interactive multi-media presentations and internet based review. Our goal is to get the student comfortable as an EMS member in the community. Our professional instructor base is made up of experienced Emergency Medical Responders, Primary Care Paramedics and Advanced Care Paramedic personnel who are highly dedicated to their students.

Course Expectations:

100% attendance is mandatory, lateness will also not be tolerated

Respect - for each other, the instructor, the facility, and the equipment

Professionalism - you are expected to demonstrate the same level of professionalism as would be expected of any EMS personal
All assignments, skills and exams must completed on time and at a grade of 80% or higher. Candidates that do not achieve the 80% or higher will be removed from the program and forfeit all fees.

Excellence:
We will produce students of the highest caliber, able to perform with minimal supervision and an eye for detail. These students shall be leaders both in the community and the EMS field, adhering to all guidelines and policies issued from our governing bodies.

Quality Education:
Courses will be instructed by EMS professionals active in their profession. The curriculum includes all of the competencies outlined in the NOCPs.

Our program will incorporate visual, hands-on, audio and text learning. Preparedness:
Our students will emerge from the EMR program with the skills, attitude and confidence to perform professionally and exceptionally in the field of EMS.

Employ-ability:
Upon Successful completion of the program, the student will be eligible to register and participate for the EMALB EMR registration exam and gain employment in industrial and municipal ambulance services.

-An Standard First Aid with Level C-CPR & AED certification course taken no more than 1 year before the EMR course start date. This is a two day course or 1 day if re-certifying. Standard First Aid with Healthcare Provider (HCP) CPR will also be accepted. Standard First Aid with Levels A or B CPR will NOT be accepted. PROGRAM DELIVERY METHOD

The program we offer is a high quality practical, skill-based student education. There is a self study component, supplemented by interactive multi-media presentations, internet based review and pre-assignments to get you comfortable as an EMS member in the community.

Home Study Component:

You will be responsible for 50 hours of home study prior to the course start date. Home study information will be handed out with the student packages once full payment is received by our office.

Pre-course Assignment:

A pre-course assignment will be included with the home study package. This assignment is required to be handed in for marking first thing on day one. Candidates will not be admitted into class without handing in a completed pre-course assignment.

Daily Assignments:

Assignments that will need to be completed outside of the course scheduled time (homework) will be assigned to each candidate on a daily basis.

Midterm Evaluation:

Candidates will complete a midterm written exam and practical scenario half way through the program. Candidates must obtain a minimum grade of 80% to continue with the program.

Final Evaluation:

Candidates will complete a final written exam and practical scenario on the final day of the program. Candidates must obtain a minimum grade of 80% to complete this program.

Candidates must achieve a minimum of 80% on both the written and practical components on the Midterm. Candidates who were not able to achieve 80% at the Midterm will not be eligible to continue on with the program and will not be entitled to a refund for the remainder of the course.

Upon successful completion of this program you will have earned the following tickets:

�An BC EMALB Approved EMR Program Certificate.
�Candidates wishing to register for an EMA EMR Provincial Exam are encouraged to register for an EMR course that has a minimum completion date of 2 week prior to the EMALB cut off.
