Casual / On-Call Transition House Worker

Tri-City Women’s Resource Society provides safe shelter, counseling and victim assistance services to women and children.

Our Transition House workers provide support for adult women – and their dependent children, if any – who have experienced, or are at risk of abuse, threats or violence. The transition house worker provides support, encouragement, resource information and advocacy, facilitates support groups, including mediation resulting from communal living, referral support, and crisis intervention. The worker also promotes awareness and provides information about the impact of violence on women and children in our community.

Qualifications and Experience:
A college diploma; specialized training in violence in the family from a recognized program and one year direct experience working with women and children who have experienced violence. Knowledge of and an understanding of the cycle of violence and its effect on the family; and knowledge of the legal system, community resources, appropriate legislation, and Ministry of Children and Family Development policies.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and compassionately with clients, community and volunteers;
• Ability to be non-judgmental, open, and accepting;
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
• Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively;
• Ability to work with minimum supervision but to work effectively in a team setting;
• Knowledge of the local resources.
Prerequisites to Employment:
Current specified First-Aid Certificate, Criminal Record Check, shift work,
The position is required to work in a stressful environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situations, which are or have experienced physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
