Hello, my name is Clayton Farrelly. I am a recent graduate of UBC with a B.A. music major. I have been playing guitar for about 20 years now and have decided that it might be fun to start teaching others. I have a great deal of experience playing classical and pop/rock but am also familiar with jazz and blues. Additionally, I am quite proficient in music theory, ear training techniques, composition, improvisation, and audio engineering. I would be more than happy to provide instruction on any of these within the structure of our lessons.
I am a strong believer in playing what you like and keeping it simple. I am also a big fan of "jamming" and improvisation and believe anyone interested in learning guitar would benefit, both physically and mentally, from incorporating it into their practice. Since I am relatively new to teaching (I have taught a lesson or two to friends and relatives), for the time being I am looking for beginners only. I will also be charging appropriately, say $20 for an hour, $15 for 45 mins. We can do lessons in my apartment where I have several guitars, amps, effects, guitar software programs, drum machines, and Protools for recording what you learn. Alternatively, depending on where you live, I can come to you. However, I may need to increase my rate if you choose the latter.
