Since 1990, FDM Software has been providing innovative records management, computer aided dispatch, GIS analysis and mobile software to more than 100 public safety clients throughout North America. Headquartered in North Vancouver B.C., we are searching for a Technical Writer to join our team.

Duties
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of user- and administrator-oriented documentation, in both print and online formats, from planning to delivery. Specific tasks encompass planning, designing, writing, editing, producing and maintaining documentation
• Participate fully in FDM’s iterative software development life cycle, including attending daily standup meetings, weekly and quarterly retrospectives, and periodic product reviews, and contributing to online product development forums
• Analyze both back-end and front-end features and functionality and providing regular input to FDM’s software development process
Qualifications
• Education: Technical Communications certificate/diploma, or degree in English or a Communications-related field, with proven technical background
• Experience: One year or more technical writing experience in the software industry, with experience documenting APIs, SDKs, IDEs, or development frameworks a definite benefit
• Strong writing skills, the ability to accurately assess the needs of the various audiences, and the desire to support FDM’s products with useful, effective documentation that directly impacts the experience technical users have with the product
• Ability to absorb technical information quickly, to research independently, to interview subject matter experts effectively, and to analyze, synthesize, and convey the acquired information and concepts clearly in plain language
• SQL proficiency, and an understanding of database design and development with a passion for technology and contributing to software development efforts
• Strong attention to detail with proven ability to conceive, research, organize, write, and deliver documentation projects from start to finish
• Experience with FrameMaker, knowledge of structured authoring and single-sourcing methodologies and tools, and knowledge of automated documentation generation tools an asset
