We live very close to the seabus, so a 12 minute ride into downtown Vancouver where there is access to art galleries, museums, theatres, shopping and great restaurants.

Job Description
We are looking for someone to care for our 21 month old and our 4 year old while Dad is at work and Mom is at school. Hours will be close to full-time, but school has frequent breaks so you will have those off as well. You will be spending the day with the happy, fun, adventureous little girls while we work and go to school and then weekends and evenings you may do as you please. Our current au pair has taken classes and loves to go shopping on the weekends.
We do not have cable TV (just movies) and we want our children to focus on playtime, creativity and being outside experiencing the natural world as much as possible.
We are looking for full-time au pair who lives at our house and is responsible for light housekeeping - just cleaning up toys as well as cleaning up after lunch. If you enjoy cooking we would love to share dinner duties, but it's not required. Everyday Magic Children's Center runs a flexible program that may change based on the needs of the group; an individual or the projects the children are working on. Below is an example of experiences that will be provided throughout the day.
Arrival and free play: this is a time when children can choose experiences in which they wish to engage in. These experiences may include play dough, books, music, blocks, creative play, dramatic play, sensory play etc)
Snack: at this time children will be given the opportunity to eat a nutritious snack together. This snack is provided by Everyday Magic Children's Center.
Circle Time: Children will join together for a short circle or group time that may include stories, music, dance etc. At this time we will also talk about projects that the children may be exploring. Children will be encouraged to tell their own stories and participate in circle time.
Strong Start: We like to participate in the Strong Start program at Valleycliffe Elementary School. Among many things, it provides the children with other children to socialize with, new experiences to enjoy and time to play in the school's gym with all sorts of equipment.
Projects: this is time to focus on specific projects that are led by the interests and ideas of the children.
Outdoor Time (weather permitting, if not gross motor experience indoors): the children will be encouraged to explore the outdoors and engage in free play. Occasionally, we will use this time to go on walking fieldtrips of the neighborhood.
Lunch: the children will sit together for lunch time which is the perfect opportunity to model nutrition and work on social and language skills.
Rest Time: children nap or rest quietly on their mat followed by individual quiet activities.
Free Play: example activities as above
Snack: at this time children will be given the opportunity to eat a nutritious snack together. This snack is provided by Everyday Magic Children's Center.
Outdoor Time: as above
Quiet experiences before parents/guardians arrive, possibly group time. School aged children will be encouraged to work on any homework they may have.

We are beside a park which is undergoing a $900,000 renovation... It's a 16 hectare park, so there is still plenty of room to play.
We are currently accepting registrations for newborns to twelve year olds. Included in the price is a drop off and pick service from any school between 22nd street in West Vancouver to Lillooet Road in North Vancouver. (We will also go to Mulgrave School.)
We have great hours... we are open from 6:30am to 6:00 pm week days.
Security... our daycare is locked and you need a key to get in. If you have forgotten your key, or are sending someone to pick your child up, there is almost always someone at the front desk to let you or your designated caregiver in.

Our son attends music class with me one morning a week, and we also go to a parent-child Montessori class together, another day. Exercise and fresh air as well as arts and crafts, music, reading and baking are activities he enjoys in the home, and the nanny will be expected to do with him.
The current nanny and I communicate via text, and this works well, so the new nanny will have to have this on her phone plan and be comfortable with this form of communication.
Typical duties include:
*daily nature walks/playground visits/yard or outside activity
*reading, arts and crafts, music, etc. in the home
*housekeeping - dishes, bedding, vacuuming, dusting, mopping the floor (the housework is a great help as I am unable to do much of it due to my Arthritis, but it should all be able to be completed during our son's nap, or while he plays independently).
There is no cable TV, and our son does not watch any television.
Preferable but not required: experience with Montessori approach to learning and activities, or early childhood education.
The schedule will most likely be two days a week, from 9-5, and the occasional Saturday. Dad travels a lot for work, so Mom might ask for extra help when he is gone, occasionally.
Must be comfortable with a large dog who gets excited when people come to the door but otherwise naps a lot.
Pay dependent upon qualifications. Reference checks will be done, so please provide two to three references from previous families you have worked with, none with a familial relationship to you.
