<br>
Access Support Workers provide one-on-one support for children and teens ages 3-18 who have disabilities. The Support Worker will be supervised by the Access and the Summer Day Camp Program Coordinators. In addition to one-on-one support, they will develop and train summer camp staff and volunteers to assist them in developing skills to manage a variety of behaviours. During the summer program they will work with children and teens and assist camp staff, volunteers, and families/caregivers to implement existing support plans to promote consistency and most importantly: help everyone have fun and make friends at summer camp.<br>
<br>
The preferred applicants will possess: experience working with children of all ages; knowledge of group characteristics and age appropriate activities; the ability to effectively provide guided choices, instructions and directions to children; the ability to encourage appropriate behavior; the ability to assess situations involving challenging individuals and behaviours; the ability to provide on-site training and guidance; and experience working with families and other professionals. <br>
<br>
The successful candidate will possess valid Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification or equivalent. A valid class 5 BC Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle is required for this position in order to travel between summer camp programs at the West Vancouver Community Centre, Ambleside, Lighthouse Park and Gleneagles Community Centre.The following experience and education would be considered an asset: experience working with children with disabilities; experience working or volunteering within a recreation setting; Special Education Training or equivalent; ECE, B.Ed. Special Education Certificate, or equivalent; and a Class 4 Driver's Licence.<br>

All applicants must be available to attend an in-person group interview during the period of April 16-18, 2012, and successful candidates must be available the following paid training sessions:<br>

June 2, 2012 - West Van Community Day<br>
June 25 & 26 2012 - Mandatory Staff Training<br>
[TBA] - Camp meetings / Site preparation / prep hours<br>
July 3-August 31, 2012 - Camp Dates<br>

Successful candidates will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check. Please note that employment is dependent upon program registration.<br>

<br>
West Vancouver has a tradition in Summer Camp fun for over 25 years. We pride ourselves in our exceptional summer camp staff who create fun and caring environments that foster learning and growth for camp participants. We are currently accepting applications for the positions of Summer Camp Leaders.<br>
<br>
There are many camps offered throughout the District of West Vancouver, including Full Day, Overnight, Half Day, Preschool, and Specialty Camps. Some staff may be hired to work at a variety of camps throughout the summer. For information about each camp, please refer to the West Vancouver 2011 Summer Camps Leisure Guide, available in all West Vancouver Parks and Community Services facilities or online at www.westvancouver.ca.<br>
<br>
Summer Camp Leaders are responsible for the daily camp implementation. The position may include but is not limited to the following: program development; budget & purchasing supplies; risk management; supervising volunteers and campers; and leading and creating activities and gamesFor some camps, supervision of staff, reports, and evaluations may be required. The time commitment will vary for each camp and may require tasks and commitments before and after the camps.<br>
<br>
Summer Camp Leaders are required to possess current First Aid and CPR-C certification. The following certifications or qualifications will be considered an asset:  Class 4 Driver's Licence; Bronze Cross or NLS; OFA III / Advanced Wilderness First Aid; Coaching certification, NCCP, or equivalent; SuperHost/Worldhost, Babysitter Training, or other similar certifications; Teaching or instructing experience or certification.<br>
