Pregnant Participants Needed for Influenza Study (Women�s Health Research Institute)

The Women�s Health Research Institute is seeking pregnant women to participate in a study identifying risk factors for pandemic influenza. The purpose of the research is to determine who is at risk of becoming ill with influenza, and whether influenza in pregnancy is associated with an increase in adverse fetal/neonatal outcomes.

If you are older than 16 years of age, are less than 30 weeks pregnant and have regular access to a computer with internet, you are eligible to participate in this study. You can participate whether you have received the H1N1 vaccine or not, and whether you have already been sick with a cold or flu prior learning about the study.

As the 2010 Winter Olympics quickly approach, we are witnessing the city becoming a heavily policed space where movements and actions are strictly controlled, where rights and civil liberties for people are being taken away.

2010witness is a group of local artists interested in dealing with abuse of power. We are aware of the existing level of violence going on in the streets of Vancouver. We are concerned about the effects that the increase in armed forces will have in the city. We are interested in creating an archive of images, videos, reports and stories before, during and after the Games.

We are looking for people who are interested in being involved with the project. Artists, designers, and anybody who feels like they can contribute to the project with their voice and perspectives. Do you commonly make CD, podcast, or blog compilations for your friends? Do you like surfing Web radio stations for the next artist to love? Are you on the hunt for great new music on a near daily basis? Do you enjoy music of the independent rock & pop persuasion?

If the answer to all or most of these questions is yes, please read on if you're interested in joining a club (based in San Francisco, but aiming to represent the best music cities worldwide) dedicated to music sharing and appreciation.

The format of the club is as follows:
- Each member is a designated a rotating week approximately every 8 weeks (e.g. 2nd week of every other month) to create a stereo-playable audio CD mix and snail-mail a copy of the mix to all other members.
- All virtual (group email) and snail mail (to distribute your mixes via CD)
- Every week has a different member assigned so the rest of the club gets something new each week.
- Each mix/CD/compilation can involve a theme of the creator's choosing (or no theme at all)

Requirements for all members:
- Reliable, timely production and mailing of mix on turn (each member is allowed one "mulligan" for holidays & emergencies)
- At least one communication to the group when mixes are mailed, and responsive to club emails requesting feedback
- A PC or Mac capable, blank CD-R discs, and a program for burning CD mixes
- Creation of audio format CDs playable in any stereo (not MP3 or data CDs requiring a computer to hear)
- Inclusion of at least a numbered artist & track listing, and a plastic case or paper CD sleeve

Nice-to-haves:
- An enjoyment of CD design (faces, covers, liner notes)
- An enjoyment of music exploration/challenges
- A penchant for music technology/toys
- An enjoyment of music writing (some past members have include musical essays/ramblings and/or track-by-track comments with their mixes)

Legal Alternative to File Sharing and Torrents (Sunshine Hills, North Delta)

I'm assuming if you are reading this that you are a regular file sharer and user of torrents. If you don't know what I'm talking about, google torrents, file sharing, and Vuze.
Now for those who are on the same page with me, I assume you all know that the laws in Canada are changing in January 2010 and what we have been doing legally in Canada for the last few years, will soon be illegal. From my knowledge of the industry, the plan is insanely heavy enforcement from day 1. Be prepared that if you are or have participated in file sharing copyrighted media, software etc via the internet, that you are likely on a list and will be the first people targeted by "the man." My advice is to hold off completely on any seeding, peering or leeching come January 1 and keep a low profile for a few months to see how it pans out. Also, if you have any media files or as they would say, "pirated files" on your hard drive, save them to disk, or an external drive or memory stick and delete all evidence of them from your computer so that you don't get unfairly nailed for stuff you downloaded Legally before the laws changed.
I have an idea that may help ease the withdrawal from unlimited access to free media files we may go through when they start enforcing the new laws.
We need to start local neighborhood media sharing clubs where videophiles and TV addicts can share their DVDs or recorded TV shows with each other. We wood put lists of each persons DVDs on a website or in monthly newsletter.
Membership to this not for profit media trader club would require monthly purchase of at least 1 New Release DVD on release week and 1 box set of a tv series.
All DVD's purchased must be from the list of requested DVD's based on the top requests from members each month. For tv series box sets try to coordinate with members to avoid duplicates.
Trades could be arranged my personal contact, texts, a post on the site or we could use Twitter.
It only works in local communities/neighborhoods where hopefully you already know some people in the club.
Some legal agreement should be signed binding members to abide by agreed return dates and to replace any damaged DVD's by planned return date.
If you think this is a good idea please respond and share your thoughts.
Michael PS. We could use this for games as well, even other areas where pooling shared resources help those in our communities, like tools, toys, skills abilities, time, baby sitting, extra produce from gardens, pets, tutoring, ladders, minivans, etc.

It's really quite simple...

1. I like my personal space as much as the next guy. In this country we generally have a lot of it. You're used to it. I get it. But the bus is full. Have some f4(kn consideration and move your ass over so that someone else can sit down without having to trip over your knees and your umbrella.

2. Let me guess, you payed 2 fares, right? One for you and one for your backpack? No, you didn't? Oh. How about you remove your bag from the seat beside you then and put it on the ground? If you don't want ground cooties, how about your lap? I think other humans will be far more grateful for the opportunity to use a seat that your backpack will.

3. Elderly people should not have to stand on the bus. If you are young and able bodied, it won't kill you to stand. If you are elderly and have a body that is wearing down...well, it won't kill you to stand either, but you've spent a lot of time on your feet in this lifetime already and will probably appreciate having a seat.

4. Your perfume/cologne stinks. You may think it smells good and you have become so accustomed to it that you can douse yourself with that shit and barely notice it. But you are raping every innocent nose that crosses your path. This is olfactory violation!

5. Keep your sexist/ racist/ homophobic/ classist/ ableist comments to yourself. Better yet, transcend the paradigms to which these attitudes belong. A lot to ask, i know. I don't want to hear that shit, though.

6. Turn down your music! Christ! I don't want to sound like a square and all, but your personal entertainment device (key word *personal*) is audible to everyone on the bus. Audible, as in I can hear every syllable! And its always the shittiest music that is played at high decibels. This is actually damaging your ears, for real!

7. You are not in your bedroom. Cellphone conversations invariably begin with "Hello?...yeah, I'm just on the bus" and yet still launch into really personal details. Would you tap me (a stranger) on the shoulder and reveal all your dirty secrets? No? Well, you're certainly giving me quite the window into your sex life by having audible personal phone conversations right beside me.

8. Move to the back of the bus. No, the back, like, up the stairs! I'm confused, I thought we valued our personal space around here. Why is it that you would rather be nestled up to a jillion rainsoaked people that walk up 2 steps?

This is a special event for Asian guys. As you may have guessed, as an Asian dating coach in Vancouver I not only

My friend and I are two guys who are a few weeks away from launching our own independent internet marketing businesses.
