This Limited Edition 3 Disc (two CD + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) edition of the UK trio's 2008 collection includes a bonus DVD that contains 18 of their videos. London Conversations is the first complete overview of St Etienne's catalog. It contains all the major hits from one the '90s most revered acts as well as two brand new tracks (Xenomanias 'Burnt Out Car' and the Richard X produced 'This Is Tomorrow'). Like most bands formed by former music journalists, Saint Etienne were a highly conceptual group. The trio's concept was to fuse the British Pop sounds of '60s London with the club/Dance rhythms and productions that defined the post-acid house England of the early '90s. Led by songwriters Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, and fronted by vocalist Sarah Cracknell, the group managed to carry out their concept, and, in the process, Saint Etienne helped make indie dance a viable genre within the U.K..

"Saint Etienne's 1991 debut Fox Base Alpha should, in theory, be a tough work to update, partly because it's an album utterly of its time -- "to the sound of the World of Twist, you leant over and gave me a kiss," coos Sarah Cracknell -- and partly because on it, Saint Etienne created a world entirely their own: house tracks named after old Donovan lyrics, Dusty Springfield samples alongside 70s reggae rhythms and contributions from Harvey Williams of none-more-indie band Another Sunny Day. But Richard X, the producer charged with this update, shares the band's omnivorous musical appetites, and love of pop. His remixes pull songs that previously existed in a beatific, stoned fug into sharper focus -- She's the One becomes a propulsive Northern Soul stomp -- and spring unexpected surprises: there aren't many songs that can claim to have been vastly improved by the addition of a children's choir, but that's precisely what happens to Like the Swallow. The end result is as good as the original, which makes it close to perfect."

Deluxe digitally remastered and expanded two CD edition of this 1997 compilation from the British Electronic Pop trio featuring a bonus disc that contains additional material including four previously unreleased tracks. The release is packaged in the luxurious Deluxe Edition style and comes with a booklet packed with brand new sleevenotes, images and memorabilia. Continental was originally a Japanese only compilation of Saint Etienne's non-album singles, cover versions and new material that was recorded in 1996-97 in between working on other projects. Taking inspiration from little known British band Curve, the formula behind Garbage was simple enough: Industrial strength beats, grungy guitars and ice queen vocals. But in Scottish fireball Shirley Manson the three middle-aged studio whizzes from Wisconsin not only found a muse but a front woman whose infinite charisma and wicked sense of humor--as evidenced by the title of this greatest hits set--gave even No Doubt a solid run in the hits race. Released in conjunction with a CD of the same name, Absolute Garbage is a collection of 15 music videos from the rock band Garbage. Fronted by Shirley Manson, whose smooth and distinctive voice is equally adept at purring as it is growling, the group also includes drummer Butch Vig, guitarist Steve Marker, and bassist Duke Erikson. But make no mistake about it: The visuals are all about the photogenic Manson. It was their breakthrough single "Only Happy When It Rains" that made an impact on both radio and MTV in 1995. Manson, who at the time resembled a fierce, red-headed version of supermodel Kate Moss, appears on screen in a blue minidress that matches her eye shadow and nail polish, and knee-length Doc Martens. Interspersed between random shots of extras dressed like Teletubbies, deconstructed bathrooms, and her bandmates (who are musically gifted but not particularly video friendly), Manson pleads her case for being happy when things "are complicated." That her dress changes in color to pink is almost incidental in the vignette, and "Only Happy When It Rains" manages to marry both arty intentions with a rock 'n' roll cool vibe that doesn't come across as either clichéd or lofty. Between 1995 and 2007, when Absolute Garbage was released, the band broke up and got back together a handful of times. But there is a cohesiveness to their look and sound, even as it evolves, that makes them distinctively Garbage. They worked with some of the era's most popular video directors. Fashion photographer Matthew Rolston succinctly captures the mood of "I Think I'm Paranoid," while Samuel Bayer (best known for his work with Nirvana) helmed "Vow," a simple performance piece that captures the band's raw energy. Actually, it's the concert style videos ("When I Grow Up") where the band seems most at home--commanding a stage. While some of the videos are widescreen, the majority are full screen, But all of them pop on the TV screen with their vivid imagery and vibrant colors. The DVD also includes a documentary called "Thanks for Your Uhhh, Support," that weaves in home videos, news clips, and concert footage. While the band's music indicates that Garbage formed organically, it wasn't quite that simple. Product Description
Executive produced by Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, The Pacific is an epic ten-part miniseries from HBO and the team that made Band of Brothers.
The Pacific tracks the intertwined real-life stories of three U.S Marines, Robert Leckie, John Basilone and Eugene Sledge across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during World War 2. The miniseries follows these men and their fellow Marines from their first battle with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of Peleliu, across the bloody sands of Iwo Jima and through the horror of Okinawa, and finally to their triumphant but uneasy return home after V-J Day.
The Pacific is primarily based on two memoirs of US Marines, Eugene Sledge's With The Old Breed: At Peleliu And Okinawa and Robert Leckie's Helmet For My Pillow. The series also draws on Eugene Sledge's China Marine and Chuck Tatum's Red Blood, Black Sand, as well as original interviews conducted by the filmmakers.
