WRA Wildlife Rescue Association of BC is seeking applicants for Wildlife Care Workers to perform essential daily animal care and maintenance duties in WRA's Care Centre. These individuals, working alongside our staff and volunteers, help to keep the facility in operation 7 days a week during WRA's busiest time in the spring and summer months. These positions are made available through the federal Canada Summer Jobs program administered by Service Canada and are subject to confirmation of grant funding in May.
To be eligible to apply for these positions, applicants must be students who are:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Feeding nestling and fledgling birds (dawn to dusk)
- Assisting senior staff with medical care of wildlife patients
- Disinfecting equipment
- Cleaning cages and aviaries
- Setting up habitats for both indoor and outdoor animals
- Facility clean-up
- Preparing diets and feedings
Requirements:
- Reliability
- Good physical stamina and health
- Patience and the ability to work alone or in a group
- Good communication skills
- Comfortable around small birds and mammals
- Proof of current tetanus vaccination
- The ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Previous animal handling experience considered an asset
Training:
- Continuous training provided by senior staff on shift and via frequent workshops
- Specific training (e.g., baby bird feeding and oil-spill workshops) held as required

Job Summary:
The Electrochemist will work with SWITCH's Research and Development team to support and accelerate the commercialization of products based on SWITCH's proprietary materials. The Electrochemist will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks including, but not limited to, designing and carry out experiments, prototype device design and fabrication, development and optimization of gel electrolyte and solid polymer electrolyte formulations, preparation of formulations, data analysis and interpretation, documenting experiments and writing reports, interfacing with the product development team, device and prototype testing, trouble-shooting, ordering materials and equipment, dealing with suppliers, as well as organizing and maintaining the fabrication and testing areas of the facility.
Skills/experience required:
• Degree in Chemistry with specialization in electrochemistry, or an equivalent combination of experience and knowledge
• Experience working with electrochromic or similar charge transfer materials an asset.
• Knowledge of gel electrolytes or solid polymer electrolytes.
• Knowledge relating to charge injection and electron transfer in a two-electrode device.
• Knowledge of hole and electron injecting materials.
• Hands-on experience building and testing electrochromic or related devices.
