Are you a creative person who loves movies and televisions? Are you looking for a place to stretch your creative muscles, meet other creative people and contribute to projects that will ACTUALLY be made in the future?
Well sir or madame you are in luck, because starting February 2nd you can join us for a night of snacks, cheap beer and creative mind-melding on short film, television pilot and feature film projects currently in EARLY development.
In our first session, The Writers Room will work on an existing project currently in development. At the end of the evening writers in attendance who have their own projects in development can pitch the room and a silent vote over email will determine the next week's project for discussion.
This group does not as a rule, read finished screenplays and provide feedback. That sounds too much like work. Rather, we take concepts and help to develop them, helping each other take seeds of good ideas and turn them into exceptional treatments the writer can work with. At a certain point we do expect to take on some screenplays and pilot scripts, but ONLY for projects we have worked on in session.
These sessions are open to anyone and everyone who has some writing experience and/or has worked in the film industry. You don't have to be a writer or a professional, but you can't be a complete noob either. You need to be invited to attend as space is limited to 12 writers per session. Space is first come first serve, but preference will be given to writers with experience and/or training.
The Writing Room is held in downtown Vancouver near Stadium Skytrain Station and is hosted by a budding local production company. Writers in attendance must pay $5 to a pool to help cover the cost of snacks and beer. Writers retain FULL copyright control of their properties and are welcome to have members of the room sign simple non-disclosure agreements if they so choose.
No idea is a bad idea in The Writers Room, however, some ideas are better than others. The goal of the group is to encourage, not to discourage. If an idea is presented that doesn't turn on a green light in our heads, our job is to ask WHY and provide feedback to help focus the idea in question.
There are other groups like The Writer's Room already in session around the city. We don't promise a unique experience, but we do promise a fun, creative and relaxed experience where we hope to breed trust and friendship. If you don't have plans on Thursday night, why not come on by and let your inner geek soar?

I'm looking for local building/business owners who have blank or vandalized walls and who are sick of having to repaint them every time they get doodled on by graffiti people.

I have a piece which will be places in hundreds of vancouver city buses and am currently illustrating a kids book which is based on an old russian fairy tale.

No sculpting experience is necessary to take this introductory class. During the class Sculpting Mentor Instructors Gideon Hay & Dallas Harvey will teach students how to use the tools, build an armature, original concept design, character creation and how to sculpt realistic facial anatomy... these techniques be talked about in great detail over the five classes.
Note: If you are a CG artist looking to seriously upgrade your skills and become a stronger sculptor, character concept artist and CG modeller this is definitely the class for you. This class will teach you traditional sculpting methods that will translate back into your digital pipeline (Zbrush, Mudbox, Maya, Modo, XSI etc.)
Students will create a detailed male or female creature, fantasy or comic character bust. Students are encouraged to sculpt and detail their face into a character design of their choosing using reference from comic books, movies, TV, animation, video games, Internet or any other design source.
Sculpting materials, tools and basic reference material are included and will be provided by the instructor.
This course consists of 5 three hour classes on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 10:00pm with the first class starting February 15th, 2012.

One such idea would be videos of public art reviews.. we'd talk about different pieces that are currently on display in the public world. The goal with this is to develop a comprehensive "Art Tour" that people can log on to and self- guide from installation to installation.. and at the different installations, they would be able to check out the specific piece, the video review of the piece as well as written longhand material.
I'm going to be visiting the different pieces for sound sampling.. so, I figured it'd be like killing two birds with one stone.. if we meet up at the pieces (when and where available).. and since I'd have audio gear with me already.. why not just carry along a couple of "flip" cameras and video tape a discussion...
There are other ideas I have.. but this one is something of a key/ pet project that I want to get going as soon as possible..

"Cold reading is the art of auditioning with script in hand. Although script sides are supposed to be given to an actor at least 24 hours before the audition, sometimes you won't even see a script until you walk into the audition.
